Who pays more for car insurance in 2018: Democrats or Republicans?

In this great nation, we can choose our president, but we can’t choose our monthly premiums. But what if our political preferences and voting tendencies actually cause us to pay more each month? The Zebra wanted to know one simple thing: who has higher insurance premiums: Democrats or Republicans?

Major Findings

Mapping our auto insurance database to the 2016 Presidential race results, the elephants win out. Democrats typically pay more for car insurance than Republicans. On average, Democrats pay $1,604 per year for car insurance while Republicans pay $1,581. Before you change your midterm ballot strategy, consider it’s only a difference of $23 per year.
